An Absent TA…

In preparation for an upcoming midterm in ECON 4901, the professor scheduled two tutorial sessions yesterday and next Saturday. The mark in the class is distributed equally between a midterm and a research paper.

I begrudgingly get dressed and drive to school on a dreary, drizzly, windy afternoon.

There are 10 other students, out of the usual 20ish waiting outside a room that is locked (!), in a new section of the Unicentre.

We wait. And wait. And wait, ignoring the 5-minute TA-not-showing-up rule. (10 minutes for professors.)

An Afternoon With Audi…

“Full power, FULL POWER…” More on that after the jump…

2 months ago, I received an email from Audi about a marketing tour they were holding at various racetracks across the US. At these events, participants would get to drive the latest Audi’s and put them through a variety of exercises designed to showcase the Audi advantage.

After attending the BMW xDrive event last summer, I jumped on the chance to experience it in an Audi.

It was a phenomenal afternoon with professional driving instructors, the latest Audi’s and a chance to improve my driving skills.

Crayola U…

Carleton is definitely living up to its reputation from decades past.

I don’t care who walked away from the table.
I don’t care who is acting unreasonable.
I don’t care what the issues are.

There has almost been a strike every single year. From faculty to TAs to administrative staff. Back in high school, 4 out of 5 years were affected by teacher and alternately, administrative staff strikes/work-to-rule.

Unions have never and WILL never get any sympathy from me, either personally, or more importantly, as a future economist.

Heroes World Tour…

On Tuesday, August 28th, 2007, I woke up way too early, to go line up for the DVD release of the TV show "Heroes". It was the most fan-obsessive thing I’ve ever done.

By lining up early in the morning, I received a wristband that guaranteed an autograph from the cast members that would be at the event on Friday, August 31st, 2007.

Why My Life Revolves Around Food…

They say the way to a guy’s heart is through his stomach and for me, it particularly rings true. Many people have commented on the fact that quite a few of my entries are about food so I thought I’d finally explain my proclivity.

I grew up in a family where everyone cooked. My mom was a professional chef. One of her brothers was a professional chef. Her other brother is an executive chef, at arguably one of Ottawa’s best Italian restaurants. My maternal grandmother used to cater and my aunts and uncles were waiting tables when they were 12.

Someone once asked, "Can you [Jeremy] cook?" to which another person replied, "If Jeremy can’t cook, his family should disown him."

Idiot Protesters…

Another day, another inane protest…

Since offensive things are more likely to illicit a response, let’s just cut to the chase: White people, stop going to other countries, with your apparently evolved moral superiority and overflowing goodness of heart, driven by pity, and trying to effect change. You complain about radicalization and yet don’t see the hypocritcal stance of many organizations such as Greenpeace, Free ____, or Save The ____’s.

It’s always amusing, if not a waste of my time, to read in the papers about the various protests that arise for everything from outsourcing to the seal hunt to globalization.
